Meet ZOOOM Partners: Innovation Salzburg GmbH
You can find below a short interview with our partner Innovation Salzburg GmbH, represented by Florian Duerager.
Could you share a bit about your organization or university, including your role in the ZOOOM project? What expertise does your team bring to the table?
The purpose is to promote the Salzburg economy and science, particularly by supporting the collaboration and coordination of the state’s technology and innovation policies. This includes:
- Acting as a strategic transfer center between business, universities, non-university research institutions, and other scientific institutions to promote cooperation, especially among research institutions located in Salzburg.
- Developing, shaping, and implementing projects and funding measures, primarily in the field of knowledge, innovation, and technology transfer.
- Organizing relevant information events or other activities that support the purposes of the company.
- Developing and implementing important strategic innovation projects as project sponsors.
- Facilitating the transfer of research and development results to science and business, as well as participating in research and development projects.
- Supporting network and cluster formations.
I can provide contacts to companies for developing, testing and dissemination of ZOOOM-tools.
What motivated you to join the ZOOOM project? What aspects of the project resonated with your goals or interests?
A lot of companies believe in a closed and secret policy regarding their innovation process. I decided to join ZOOOM to gather information about the opportunities and chances of openness!
Looking back, what do you consider the key achievements of the ZOOOM project so far? How has your organization benefited from being part of this initiative?
The main achievements are to have access to a big database of information on open sources and that I’ve gathered a lot of new knowledge about the topic. In my own experience, i can say for sure, that every information which is needed, could be provided by ZOOOM.
How do you see the future of open source in the EU, particularly in terms of technological innovation, legal frameworks, and social or economic impacts? What challenges or gaps do you think still need to be addressed?
In the EU, open source is poised to drive technological innovation, aligning with digital sovereignty goals. Legal frameworks may evolve to support open source principles, fostering transparency. Socially, open source can bridge digital divides, promoting inclusivity. Economically, its cost-effectiveness may stimulate entrepreneurship, contributing to a technologically advanced, legally sound, socially inclusive, and economically vibrant future. The gaps are the stances of economies regarding openness, due to traditional beliefs, that innovation needs to be handled secretly.
